Assignment for next time

Tech:Talk will meet again in a two weeks time.
Next meetup is on March 8th.

I do have a show on March 11th -
kindly let me know if March 1st or March 15th
could work better for you.

Assignments:

- Field trip: go to B&N and rip out (metaphorically, of course) the magazine stand, get inspired.
spend a good 2-3 hours just hanging out and really looking at your sources for inspiration.
it can be the NY Times or Flaunt magazine.

- Try and tackle the Illustrator exercise below

- Choose a color scheme for your visual identity
look at color, font, layout, composition

- If you already have a card layout, try and make 5 different versions with the same card elements

Cheers,
Shiri

exercise

The following exercise demonstrates some basic features
in working with vector programs.

It is for Illustrator CS users, future exercise would compare AI with open-source.

List of functions in the exercise:

  • creating a basic blend
  • setting default colors
  • drawing a star
  • creating a symbol
  • applying the symbol using the symbol sprayer
  • variations of the symbol
  • spacing out the stars
  • creating a clipping mask
  • creating three rectangles for the final shape
  • using the align feature
  • using the pathfinder feature
  • using the 3d effect
  • creating the 3-d crayon
  • adding a label
  • cloning the crayon
  • changing the color of the crayon
  • applying transparency
  • creating the crescent shape
  • adding live effects
  • wrapping text around artwork
I want you to see how you're dealing with this at home,
and we will crack it together in class.

cute as a button, the 4x5 graphire - at a 100 bucks.
it's ALL you ever need.

My goal is to get you used to working in a digital environment -
by checking out different kinds of products and figuring out which tool works for you
and suits your needs.

off topic

flavorpill networks current mailer, telling the stories from NY art/ Armory week. have fun reading, know your gossip, and subscribe - it's really very insightful.
link here: http://nyc.flavorpill.net/

they review art, music, books, fashion and world news in a really (hipster) poppy, digestible way. a good designer gets inspired, a great designer follows culture fanatically.

Hiya!

Hi all,

Welcome, this is your new blog. An on-line extension to our salon meetings, this blog is where you can post your creations to share with the group and continue discussion outside of "official" class setting.

Enjoy it,
Shiri
